How To Pray With Shalom

Like Job, we may frequently be forced by life and its circumstances to deal "with great things" that we do not understand, and so must learn from the Psalmist to pray for the gifts of wisdom and knowledge. One of the easiest things to note in Psalm 119 is the constant way in which the author relates wisdom and knowledge to God's law. The law is a vehicle for God's justice and righteousness, fidelity and revelation. The wise man will live according to the word of God.

Job was a wise man, and indeed a good man, but he suffered terribly. This was something neither he nor his friends could understand. While his friends continually insisted that Job must have sinned since he suffered so much, Job equally insisted that he was innocent, and this insistence was a sign of his constant faith and hope in God. Thus he came through the trial of suffering to greater blessings than he had had before his affliction. Well could he have affirmed the truth of the Psalmist's words, "It is good for me that I have been afflicted". Could we hope to learn the wisdom of the Psalmist's words?

Lord, teach me wisdom and understanding so that in times of trouble I may turn to You for light and revelation, knowing that no purpose of Yours can be hindered.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That Catechists may be sustained by the prayers and collaboration of parish communities for the successful accomplishment of the new evangelisation.
