The final part of the reading from Paul's Letter to the Corinthians today seems to contradict the Psalm. For the Psalm declares that all belongs to God, the earth and its fullness, the world and those who dwell in it. Paul declares that all things belong to the Corinthians. All things, including all persons, belong to us. Yet, once again, it is in the juxtaposition of apparently contradictory statements that we attain to that greater truth of God revealed to us in Christ, that greater wisdom that the world holds foolishness.

The Psalmist made a tentative step in the direction of Paul's affirmation when he spoke of a blessing from the Lord, a reward from God. What is not ours can belong to us if we open up our hearts to God in purity, if we keep our hands sinless by a life of holiness.

While the Old Testament held out the promise of possible blessing and rewards from God, we know that all those promises have been fulfilled in Christ. We can, even here on earth, enjoy the graces which God's love bestows on us, for we belong to Christ and Christ belongs to God.

Father in heaven, grant us the grace of wisdom, that we may never seek the meaning of our lives outside of the mystery of Christ.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
For children and youths in Catholic Schools, that in the course of their training they may encounter strong and wise educators who will help them to grow in their religious faith and healthy attitudes to life.
