When the Israelites in the desert were punished for their sins by a plague of serpents, they were saved by turning in faith towards the bronze serpent lifted up by Moses. St John, the evangelist saw in the lifting up of the serpent as a sign of Jesus' being lifted up on the Cross. He wrote, "Just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, - that all those who believe may have eternal life in Him" (Jn. 3:14).

Lifted up on the Cross, Jesus has made known fully who He was. There, He revealed the depth of God's love for men. It is no surprise that the Cross has a central place in all Christian churches. Generations of Christians have looked to the Cross as the most dramatic and profound symbol of the meaning of Christ. But can men put their faith in the crucified humbled Christ? Those who truly 'seek him' in faith will definitely find life. Men must decide for or against Christ as that determines their destiny.

Let us take some time during this Lent to exercise our spiritual sight and look at our lives in the light of the Cross. It is the perfect image of God's love and of the reach of human love as well. Yes, the real meaning of love is shown on the Cross.

Lord, we trust in You, teach us to follow the way of Your Cross. Bring all of us to a new life in You. Amen.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
