As we prepare to celebrate the coming of the Lord among us, we are reminded of what that coming means. The deaf will hear, the blind will see, the poor and the lowly will have cause to rejoice but it will be bad news for tyrants and those who do harm to others. Jesus will come as the visible presence of God and of God's ways. The message of the First Reading should be read at a deeper level. We are all deaf and in need of hearing the Word of God much better than we usually do. We are all blind and not very good at seeing things in God's way. We all have need of being enriched no matter what our status or our bank account is. Advent is a time for us to open our hearts so that we will not just externally celebrate Christmas but on the deepest level open our hearts so that Jesus can be born there - again and again.

Lord, that I may see and hear - and know how to speak.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
