In the first reading, Jeremiah prophesies the future, the coming of the messianic Kingdom and beginning of the New Era to be realized by a King, right and prudent, because "the Lord is our Justice", echoes "God is with us". The justice of God is not a juridical notion, but a salvific one. "God is our salvation" or "Saviour" through the communication of His Spirit who is transforming, sanctifying.

In the Gospel of Matthew today the evangelist manifests from the start that Christ, according to the flesh, belongs to humanity, through His integration in Israel. The action of the Holy Spirit, with His creating dynamism, makes possible the "Emmanuel" or "God is with us" and so a new people or renewed humanity will start.

A human collaboration is always needed and here it is realized in Mary, generous and faithful virgin, and in Joseph, just and believing man, who is son of David, heir of all the promises. Today too this human divine collaboration is being realized. It is a salvific mystery.

Blessed be the Lord of God of Israel, who alone does wondrous things. Blessed be His glorious name for ever. May His glory fill the whole earth. Amen.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
