On this the last day of the year we read once again John's magnificent Prologue to his Gospel. It tells us who Jesus really is - the Word of God. Through His Word, God speaks to us and reveals Himself to us. The Word, through His taking on our human form, can speak to us in language we can understand. He became one like us in everything except sin. He lived among us and with us and shared the life of the ordinary people as their Brother. By the way He lived His short life on earth and by the words He spoke to us, He showed us how we could live our human lives and turn them into a journey that leads to God. Maybe we should say, lead back to God, the God from whom we originally came. And, in a final demonstration of the depth of His - God's - love for us, He died on the cross in degradation and shame. By this emptying He became filled with all the fullness of God. He invites us to go with Him on the same journey.

As we enter a new year, Lord, help us to know You more clearly, follow You more nearly, and love You more dearly.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
