In yesterday's Gospel reading, we saw how the Pharisees, for all their religious sophistication, could not see the hand of God in everything that Jesus did and said. Today it is the turn of Jesus' own disciples. As they cross the lake in the boat with Jesus, they are concerned about only one thing - there is not enough food for their lunch. And, when Jesus warns them about the yeast (i.e. the corrupting spirit) of both the Pharisees and the Herodians, they can only see in Jesus' words a reference to their lack of bread. So Jesus scolds them for their total lack of understanding of what they had recently seen and heard.

In one case, 5,000 people had been fed with 12 basketsful left over and, in the other, after 4,000 had eaten there were seven basketfuls left over. And here they - a mere 12 people - are worried about not having enough. How easily we, too, can forget all the care that God has shown us through the love and care of those around us.

Help me, Lord, to see the signs of Your love in every area of my life.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That all Christians, sensitive to the distressing condition of the peoples who are still suffering from hunger and thirst, may be moved to greater solidarity towards their brothers.
