From time to time we hear rumours that the end of the world is coming soon. How do we react to these rumours? With a certain amount of fear and trepidation or just disbelief? If we reflect on the signs in today's Gospel reading and look around at our world today we see that many of the things predicted there are taking place - wars and rumours of wars, earthquakes, famines. We see these so often in the news that we become immune to them and seldom reflect on their effect on the lives of so many people.

Yet, Jesus has come to establish His Kingdom on earth, a Kingdom that will overcome previous Kingdoms, a Kingdom of truth and justice, of love and peace. Am I contributing to building up this Kingdom? Perhaps as we celebrate this last week of the liturgical year I can ask myself if I have grown in the love and service of God during this past year. If so, then I need never fear when the end will come for me.

Perhaps today's readings are a gentle reminder that what we are living through now will pass away but God's dream for us is that we share His life forever and ever. His Kingdom will never pass away.

Lord, help me to live each day as if this were my last and make my contribution to building up Your Kingdom on earth.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
