It was a tragic weakness of the majority of the Jews that they were unable to recognize the true signs of the presence of God in the words and actions of Jesus Christ. The originality and goodness of His teaching should have been convincing enough proof for them. Understandably, for those who were unwilling to accept or indeed to love the teachings of Christianity, it would not have been enough if Jesus were to bring back someone from the dead! And this He did in His encounter with the widow of Naim whose son had died. And still it was not enough for most of them.

And so they asked Him for a new, wonderful and spectacular sign which would shake everyone. The sign He promised us was His own rising from the dead. But in our arrogance this is not enough for us and we have the audacity to tell Him that only if He could arrange things in such a way that there would be no suffering or evil in the world, might we condescend to believe in His teachings.

Father, grant that we may not ignore the fact that Jesus Christ did not merely wipe out evil, but met it and conquered it in His own flesh and blood. May we realize how much suffering we are responsible for.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That young people may follow Christ, the way, the truth, the life with generous enthusiasm and be ready to bear witness to him in all the situations in which they live.
