We see here two stories connected with meals. The true follower of Christ is not concerned about position or status, about having power and influence, about being looked up to, about special privileges. True Christians are only concerned with using God-given gifts to be put at the disposal of other people.

Their primary concern is the wellbeing of those around them. That is what 'service' means. And that idea continues into the second example Jesus gives. When we throw a party, who benefits? Whom do we invite? Of course, we will at times get together with family and friends to celebrate but we must also remember those who can never celebrate, those without family or friends or even without food or proper housing. If we neglect them, we neglect Christ Himself and we do not deserve to be called followers of Christ.

Fill our hearts, Lord, by loving You in those who are most in need.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That the European Union may know how to draw new nourishment from the Christian patrimony which has been an essential part of its culture and history.
