The reading in Genesis reveals to us our true identity and inheritance as children of God. We hold the royal sceptre, we are from a royal lineage. We have the power to overcome and to overthrow the enemy. "A child of God is never defeated by the World, a child of God defeats the world." In Christ, we are 'overcomers'.

However, just knowing that we come from a royal lineage is not enough to make us live and behave as true royal people. We need to pattern ourselves after our true King, Jesus. Psalm 72 reveals to us the qualities of our King and how He rules His people. Yes, Jesus came to show us the Way that we in turn can follow Him and live out our true identity.

The Gospel text shows us our genealogy and Jesus our true King. In John 8:36, Jesus tells us that His Kingdom is not of this world. Surely now we can easily connect the Psalm with the Gospel.

Lord, may we always live with the awareness of our true identity and never become putty in the world's hands.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
