As humans, we find that there are things in life that we enjoy doing. These may be from the area of our interest or the common interest that we share with others or simply that which we are capable of doing. We spend time, money and energy in the areas of our interest. But how about the things which we do not like to do or find it a burden to do? We probably show a lack of commitment in these areas or simply refrain from them.

Today's readings help us reflect on one such area that we may see as a burden or a struggle in our life - to forgive our enemies. Given a choice, who wants to have an enemy? Yet in reality, we do pick up some enemies or perhaps are struggling with the issue of not being able to forgive others and bearing ill-will against them. In the first reading, we have the example of David who, though he had good reasons to punish Saul, still chose the way of forgiveness - thus refraining from giving in to his anger. Jesus in the Gospel, goes beyond forgiveness to demand from His disciples that they should not only refrain from causing harm to their enemies but also take the initiative of going to them and helping them out of their evil condition. Jesus calls us to be compassionate as the Father is compassionate.

Lord, help me be compassionate as the You are compassionate.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
