True prophets are seldom popular people. They tell us what we don't want to hear, and they make us uncomfortable. Most people would rather listen to a "prophet" who would say nice things and make us feel good, and there is never a shortage of this type. Amos has tried his best to warn Israel of the impending disaster and to call them back to the path of God and away from sin. He has challenged people in high places, and they do not like it.

Seeing the faith of those who brought in their paralyzed friend, (Mt. 9:2) Jesus forgave the man's sins, which in this case might have had something to do with his condition. Some in the crowd are angry because Jesus has done what only God can do. But Jesus insists that all healing power originates from God, and He has been given the authority to heal whatever torments people and breaks their hearts. Jesus has power over our sins, our afflictions, our weaknesses, or struggles, in short every area of our lives. The only thing required on our part is the faith shown by the characters in this gospel story. Let nothing stand in our way. Our Lord is the Lord of all.

Lord, heal every area of my life.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That all those who are able to benefit from a holiday period may be helped during their vacation to rediscover in God their inner harmony and to open themselves to the love of human beings.
