The effort to be a true Christian is the effort to become a living Gospel. It is not enough that we believe the Gospel: we must strive to live according to the revelation it contains. It is not enough that we believe Jesus' words. We must be conformed to Him. We must become living Gospels by giving flesh to God's revealed truth.

Paul hints at this doctrine in several passages of his Letters, where he calls upon his Christians to imitate him. We read one such passage today from the Letter to the Philippians. He calls on his community to follow his "rule of life", but that rule is not written in any book: it is discovered by contemplating (Paul uses the word "study") Paul and others who follow this rule of life, for they are the people who have given flesh to this "rule". They are models. Before imitating these models, it is necessary to contemplate ("study") them. Otherwise our imitation of them will be far too superficial. By contemplation, we can reach the source of all their thoughts, words and actions.

Father in heaven, open the eyes of our hearts that we may contemplate Your glory in Your saints, and so gain the wisdom and strength we need to become a living Gospel.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That the land, culture and all the rights of the indigenous populations of the world may be respected, so that true harmony between them and those among whom they live may be attained.
