God's loving care manifests itself in the preservation of all things and in the forgiveness of sin. "But you spare all things, because they are yours, O Lord and Lover of souls. God's business of maintaining the universe is larger than any of the multinational corporations and yet is is more human. The humanness of God is to be seen in the way God looks at those who ostensibly fail - the drug addicts, prostitutes, criminals, dropouts, outcasts, the marginalized. God does not regard them as "good for nothing". "the Lord is gracious and merciful ... The Lord lifts up all who are falling and raises up all who are bowed down".

The humanness of God is personalised in Jesus as He reaches out to Zaccheus, a tax collector. The tax collectors were the outcasts of Jewish society. They collaborated with the Roman occuptation forces by collecting the taxes for them. Tax collectors were hated and shunned by genuine Jews and regarded as "sinners". Zaccheus' openness and good will is clear. But Jesus takes the initiative. Similarly no matter how insignificant we may feel, as long as we earnestly desire God in our lives and are open to His unexpected interventions He will come in. God has His own secret stairway into every heart.



Lord, we pray that You may be glorified in us and that we may be glorified in You so that we may be worthy of the gift of Jesus to us and of our call to be Christians.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
