The word 'angel' comes from a Greek word meaning 'messenger' and that is the main function of the angels as they appear in the Scriptures. They are depicted as being go-betweens, between God and His people. We see Michael in the Book of Revelation bringing defeat on the 'dragon', the symbol of all that is evil and indicating God's final victory. Raphael figures prominently (and only) in the Book of Tobit where he plays a leading role in bringing God's protection and healing to two families. Gabriel appears in the Book of Daniel to explain the meaning of visions which Daniel has had and we know him also, of course, as the messenger of God to Mary during the Annunciation when she was invited to be the Mother of God's incarnate Son. For us, the role of the angels is to remind us that God is constantly in touch with us through his loving care.

The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary and she conceived by the Holy Spirit.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
