The description of the Last Judgement which Jesus gives us today is quite extraordinary when one thinks about it. When it comes to meeting the Lord in judgement one might expect to be reminded of how little time we spent in praying to God, or of the times we missed Mass or how many times we failed to keep the Ten Commandments (especially the Sixth), or of all the mean gossiping we indulged in. None of these things are mentioned. Instead we are measured by the degree to which we came to the help of those in need - the hungry, the thirsty, the naked, the sick and those in prison (the reason they are in prison is not given; it does not seem to matter). And the reason we are judged on these things is because, if we fail here, we have radically failed to worship and love our God. "As often as you did not do these things to the very least of my brothers and sisters, you failed to do them to Me." The conclusion is that, provided we love and serve Jesus, in every single person, but especially those who are in need of any kind, all the rest will be taken care of.

Your words are spirit, Lord, and they are life.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That the sick, and especially the poorest among them, may receive the care and medical treatment worthy of human beings.
