We often hear the saying "blood is thicker that water". Well it seems that even in Jesus' time the importance of the family and family ties was understood. In the Gospel of today Mark recalls what at first glance would appear a rather surprising comment made by Jesus. However on closer inspection Jesus is pointing out that all persons can claim a close family relationship with Him. He is not rejecting His mother or His brothers and sisters but rather He is being inclusive of all humankind. We can all claim this closest of relationships and we all belong to Jesus' family. We belong by always taking care to live our lives according to the will of God no matter where this leads us. "Anyone who does the will of God, that person is my brother and sister and mother."

In a world where family ties are often no longer seen as paramount surely Jesus' statement restores the family to its vital place. Friends are certainly very important but we should never overlook the close bond of family. It is a wonderful privilege for us all to be considered members of the close family of Jesus.

Lord, help me to always cherish and appreciate the honour of being part of God's family.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
