Today in the Gospel Jesus sets forth the Beautitudes (Sermon on the Mount) as the guidelines for all Christian living. Through the Sermon Jesus is also revealing very much about Himself. He lived these Beautitudes perfectly. He has shown us how totally dependent He is on His Father and how concerned He was to do the Father's will at all times. Jesus never asks us to do anything which He Himself has not already done. He has shown us the way and all He asks of us is to follow Him so closely that we can be identified with Him.

Yes, to be a disciple of Christ we are to trust in God (poor in Spirit), to lead a God controlled life (meek), to have a single-mindedness and sincerity in the service of God (pure in heart), to make and preserve peace among men and to have that outgoing kindness of the heart of God (mercy). We need not despair or be afraid for hope and God's strength are held out to sad and suffering disciples. God's Kingdom, His saving life and love is present to us and will finally encompass (guide) us if we respond to His Word and the example of His Son Jesus.

O God help us not to rely on material things that cannot last but to rely on You who never fails. Amen.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That Christian families may lovingly welcome every child who comes into existence and surround the sick and the aged, who need care and assistance, with affection.
