Novena to the Sacred Heart

Our heart is a specialised muscle that contracts regularly and continuously, pumping blood to the body and the lungs. Without its proper function, life cannot be sustained. Today, as we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, we are invited to reflect what sustains our faith life.

Jesus, like the heart in our body is the "organ" that is regularly and continuously pumping His blood to our souls through His Words and the Eucharist. Today's Gospel reading describes how the soldiers pierced His side and there came out blood and water, serving to remind us of His Death, the greatest act of love of Jesus for you and me. God's various acts of salvation, some perhaps less dramatic than others, continuously flow throw the history of salvation. God through the Prophet Hosea also affirms that "I am the Holy One in your midst and have no wish to destroy."

To enable us to continue to receive the love of Jesus freely, we need to constantly examine our lives, make conscious efforts and trust in Him so that Christ may live in our hearts May our hearts be close to His heart, so that we may feel as He felt, love as He loved and act as He acted.

Sacred Heart of Jesus, help us to be close to You!

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
