Today we have one of the most beautiful of the Easter stories. It is a story about two of Jesus' disciples who are clearly getting out of town after what they see as the disastrous end to the life of their Master, Jesus. As his disciples, they are afraid they too may be in trouble. Then on their way, they meet a stranger who tells them that all that happened to Jesus was all clearly foretold in the Scriptures (the Old Testament). When they reach their destination, they offer hospitality to the Stranger, thus carrying out his command - "As often as you do it to the least of these my brothers and sisters, you do it to Me." Then, as he breaks the bread with them at supper, their eyes are suddenly opened and they realise they are in the presence of their Risen Lord. It is a lesson they will have to learn again and again - the Risen Lord is to be found in all kinds of places, even the most unexpected. Then, after he disappears from their sight, they rush back to Jerusalem to tell their companions (the word 'companion' means someone with whom I share bread) only to find that they, too, have seen the Lord. After meeting the Lord on the Way and with their hearts burning, there will be no more running away no matter what happens.

Lord Jesus, make our hearts burn within us as You talk to us.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That Christians, even in the difficult and complex situations of present day society, may not tire of proclaiming with their lives that Christ's resurrection is the source of hope and of peace.
