Today's words of Jesus follow immediately on a passage where the 72 disciples come back from their preaching mission absolutely thrilled with their success. Jesus today then himself thanks his Father that they have done so well. He thanks the Father for revealing his message to people who have so little formal education while hiding it from the learned. The learned people, like the Scribes and the Pharisees, who also heard Jesus, were not able to accept Jesus' teaching. Their very learning got in the way. The wonderful thing about the Message of Jesus is that it can be grasped by the simplest of people and has been since the earliest days of the Church. Of course, if we can spend time trying to understand theology or can do Scripture study we should certainly try to deepen our knowledge and understanding. At the same time, the most illiterate person can also come very close to Jesus. All can learn and understand Jesus' teachings about love and forgiveness, about generosity and sharing. Whether we are scholars or not, let us deepen our understanding too.

I thank You Father for revealing these things to mere children.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That, faced by the growing expansion of the culture of violence and death, the Church may courageously promote the culture of life through all her apostolic and missionary activities.
