The words of Jesus against the people of his own day are equally applicable to our own. He compares his situation to children busking in the market place. When they play lively music, no one will dance. When they sing sorrowful music, no one weeps. John the Baptist came among the people as a man of great austerity, eating little and dressed in the roughest of clothes but they, especially the religious leaders, would not listen to him. Then Jesus came, sharing the life of the people, sitting down with tax collectors and sinners and they called him a glutton and a drunkard. Yet, God was with both of them as many other people were clearly able to see. We should expect similar experiences. It was a martyr for faith and justice, Archbishop Oscar Romero, who said: "Truth will always be persecuted." No matter how it is presented. If people do not want the truth they will reject it under any form. At the same it is our duty to communicate our Faith in season and out of season. Because, in the long run, the truth will always prevail. In the meantime, we can expect to be misunderstood but when that happens, we can remember that Jesus had exactly the same experience.

Lord, give us the courage to uphold truth in our daily living.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That, faced by the growing expansion of the culture of violence and death, the Church may courageously promote the culture of life through all her apostolic and missionary activities.
