As a forerunner of our Lord, John the Baptist had a great task placed before him. As we prepare to receive Jesus more concretely this Christmas, let us praise and thank God for the 'forerunners' in our lives. Let us remember the ways they were instrumental in bringing Christ to us. Recognise the immense love of God which carries us through 'fire and floor', 'joy and happiness' so as to show us the way to truth, life and love.

In the first reading, we read, "he had to turn the hearts of fathers towards their children" and vice-versa. This reveals that as we are called to be 'forerunners' in the lives of others, we have to be prepared to live a radically different way of life in order to be true followers of Christ. In other words, our lives need to be in harmony with self, with our neighbours and of course with God. This is the way of living the spirit of 'incarnation' which is the power of experiencing God's gracious gift in the person of Jesus in our lives.

Lord, may this Christmas serve as Your call to new challenges; to take steps to review our relationships.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That, faced by the growing expansion of the culture of violence and death, the Church may courageously promote the culture of life through all her apostolic and missionary activities.
