The prayer/prophesy of Simeon which we hear in today's Gospel is familiar to all who pray the divine office, for the Nunc Dimitis, as the prayer is called in Latin, is used each night as people recite compline, the Latin name used to refer to the night prayer. Reciting Simeon's words is a suitable conclusion to the activities of the day, encouraging us to bring to mind all those events of each day in which we have experienced the Light of Revelation in our own lives - those moments when Christ has revealed himself to us, perhaps in an encounter with the beauty of creation, perhaps in an unexpected gesture of kindness received from a stranger, perhaps in the face of a child. In this Christmas season we celebrate the reality that the Light has indeed already dawned, and the work of salvation has been initiated. Simeon announces it, but it is up to each of us to open our eyes to see the signs of God's work in our midst. It is the gift of the Holy Spirit, at work in us as Simeon, which allows us the vision to see the Hand of God in the events around us. The sure sign of God's saving work in Jesus is the gift of Peace, which Simeon awaited with confidence. We too are called on to keep watch each day for the signs of the Christ child's reign of peace, and to play our part too in announcing the Good News.

Lord, give us the joy to proclaim the birth of Your Son Jesus Christ. Amen.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That, faced by the growing expansion of the culture of violence and death, the Church may courageously promote the culture of life through all her apostolic and missionary activities.
