In the Gospel we continue our readings from the 6th chapter of John which is on Jesus as the Bread of Life. Last Sunday, Jesus had told the people "I AM the Bread of Life." What is upsetting the Jews in today's reading is that Jesus speaks of coming down 'from heaven', that is, from God, when they (think they) know very well where he was born and grew up. Jesus tells them that they cannot understand what he is saying unless they, too, are called by God. No one has ever seen God and the only Way to God is through Jesus, whom they can see. The Way to God is through Jesus. In the days in the desert, God gave the people manna but now he gives them a very different Bread, Jesus. And those who eat this Bread will live for ever. Jesus is not just speaking here of the Eucharist. He is speaking much more widely of himself and his teaching as the only Way to live. Anyone who 'eats this Bread', that is, who bases their life entirely on the Way of Jesus and his message will experience, even now, a life that has no ending. Because it is the Way of Truth and of Love.

Lord, You are the Bread of Life! You are the Way, Truth and Life. I believe!

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That public opinion may be more aware of the problem of millions of displaced persons and refugees and that concrete solutions may be found for their often tragic situation.
