As the Gospel opens, Jesus has just left the synagogue on a Sabbath day. There he had just healed a man possessed by an evil spirit. As it is the Sabbath, they cannot go very far so Jesus and his disciples go to the nearby house of Peter, where his mother-in-law is sick with fever. Jesus reached out to her, helped her to get up and restored her to health and life. Her immediate reaction was to go and serve them all. This is what every healthy Christian does - takes care of the needs of brothers and sisters. Then evening came. The Sabbath was over. People could return to their normal activities so large numbers came to Jesus for healing and he cured many. Early the next morning, while it was still dark, Jesus left the house and went to a lonely place for prayer, even though he knew that many were still looking for Him. And, after His prayer, He went to visit many other places to preach his message and bring healing to others. There are two things for us to think about: How much of my time is given to prayer in a busy day? Do I, like Jesus, recognise my limitations and accept that I can only do a certain amount?

Let the message of Christ in all its richness find a home in You.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That the family may become more and more a place of training in charity, personal growth and transmission of the faith.
