In the Gospel, Herod and the Pharisees try to get rid of Jesus as they realize His power, but Jerusalem is His city too and He loves it. He loves it in spite of the fact that it has rejected the prophets and will eventually reject Him. His lament over His people and His city must find echoes in many of our hearts as we see our own people whom we love reject truth today. Jesus was truly a man of His people, He loved them and He loves us.

In the first reading, Paul finishes off his discourse on the spiritual life with a magnificent hymn of praise to God's love for us. It is an all powerful and everlasting love and the gift of His only Son to us is witness of its all-embracing generosity. If only we could grasp the nature of God's love for us, we could never deny Him anything and we would guard it with our lives.

Lord, grant us the gift to see Your love for us as Paul did and to love You with all our being.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That Sundays may be lived as the day on which Christians gather to celebrate the Risen Lord, participating in the Eucharist.
