Although the Bible abounds in passages which speak of God's loivng kindness and mercy, there is also the recurrent theme of just retribution for the unrepentant and the hardened persecutor. God's chosen people had rejected the Messiah when He came and their nation, as a whole, brought upon itself dire consequences when the Roman army fulfilled every detail spoken by Jesus regarding Jerusalem and the Temple. Rome itself was the target of prophecy of impending doom, suffering the same fate in a later century - likened to the fall of the Babylonian Empire more than a thousand years before. God's justice is carried out in justification of the persecuted Christians.

This convinces us that all Jesus has foretold about the cataclysms that are to occur at the end of time will surely come to pass. But when? Nobody knows and wisely too, as it becomes for us a salutary warning to be always ready for the second coming of the Son of Man. In our human frailty, often the fear of the Lord's "coming" will enable us to seek forgiveness through repentance without delay, as we do not know the day nor the hour when for each one of us time will be no more.

May we learn from this to set our minds on Jesus our Lord and Saviour, living lives of Christian holiness so as to be true and faithful followers of Christ.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
