The disciples who encountered Jesus on the road to Emmaus shared their experience with the disciples in Jerusalem. During their sharing. "Jesus himself stood in their midst." Sharing has become a part of the faith experience of many people. Luke's words today may serve as a call to us to reflect on the quality of our sharing. Sharing, like any faith activity, can be done more or less well, and so can always be done better. In this case, "better" will not mean more eloquently, more cleverly, more entertainingly. It means with a greater sense and appreciation of what God is doing in our lives. I often recall the words of a well-known Jesuit in England, long since dead, who said: "If we do not communicate the Spirit, we do not communicate." We can vary this statement to suit any reflection we may make on our various meeting - prayer meetings, Church business meetings, parish council meetings. "If we do not share the joy of the Risen Jesus, we are not sharing." "If we do not share with each other the consolation of the Resurrection, we are not sharing anything." When we leave any meeting, can we affirm with Luke, Jesus Himself stood in our midst?

Lord Jesus, enlighten us as we pray together, so that we will experience You in our midst.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That through its compelling preaching of the Gospel, the Church may give young people new reasons for life and hope.
