We sometimes have very short memories concerning the kindnesses and good things others have done for us. We need to be reminded. But this is truly the case with God's kindnesses. The Israelites were at long last ready to enter the Promised Land. But Joshua knew of the temptations they would meet there - especially with regard to other gods. He reminded them of all that God had done for them - how many times he had saved their lives and given them victory over their enemies. But then he challenged them: choose whom you will serve. Each day we should reflect on all that God has done for us and recommit ourselves to serving Him with our whole heart and mind.

The prohibition of divorce was not intended to place unbearable burdens on people but to protect the most precious of human relationships - that of marriage. In a time in which women could be dismissed on the spot and sent to live in poverty, Jesus insisted that marriage is more than a business arrangement or convenience. Jesus recognized human weakness and was aware that it would be difficult for some. He encourages us to do our best. Marriage relationships must be nurtured with love, caring, and respect. But that also applies to all human relationships. No one is an object to be tossed aside at will. Let us treat every person we meet as someone of worth and dignity - we will be surprised at the results.

Lord, help me to serve You with an undivided heart.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
