Today's Gospel reading is very short but the message for us is very clear. The disciples followed Jesus into a boat on the lake. A storm suddenly blew up. Jesus was asleep in the boat and apparently oblivious to the danger they were in. The disciples panicked and appealed to Him. 'Save us, Lord, we are going down!' But when they woke Jesus, He simply calmed the waters. Problem solved! Even when problems seem insurmountable to our human eyes, they can be solved by Jesus, sometimes very quickly. We need to trust Him and to have faith that He has our best interests at heart always. This is easier said than done as even the disciples panicked on this and many other occasions. They had the advantage of living and working side by side with Jesus. But, like us, their human weakness sometimes overcame them. We need to ask ourselves their question: 'What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the sea obey him.' In so doing, we will remind ourselves of Jesus' power. We need to have faith in His power. We can do this by repeating the Gospel acclamation:

"I hope in the Lord, I trust in His Word."

Novena to the Sacred Heart

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
