There are times when we realize that we have been very foolish. Perhaps we have made some very bad choices or really made a mess of our lives. Those listening to Peter were horrified to discover that they had turned away from the one sent by God and were implicated in his death. What should we do? Maybe we have asked that question. Peter was very reassuring - give yourselves over to Jesus - be baptized and make a fresh start. It is never too late for us, regardless of what we have done or failed to do. Jesus will always lead us back to the right path.

But sometimes we fail to recognize Jesus even when he is close. Mary Magdalene had that problem - she was so lost in her grief and disappointment that Jesus remained hidden from her eyes. Sometimes we too can be caught in our own pain or negativity so that we think God has abandoned us. It was only when she heard her name spoken that the veil lifted and she recognized him. But that recognition was not just for her - Jesus sent her on an important mission. In the same way, when we know Jesus it is not just for ourselves or about 'getting saved'. It always means a life of love and service to others, as well as sharing our joy. Jesus also calls each of us by name - let us listen carefully for him in the silence of our hearts.

Lord, open my eyes to Your presence.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That many young people may hear the call of Christ and follow him in the priesthood and religious life.
