After the harrowing experience in Nazareth, Jesus arrives in the town of Capernaum. Here, through his words and actions, he makes a deep impression on the people. The power and authority which he demonstrates, when casting out the devil from the man who was possessed, astonishes the people greatly.

Regardless of where Jesus went, people cannot help but be affected and challenged by his presence, message and actions. In Capernaum, in encountering Jesus, the people were impressed. They became excited and amazed at what he said and did. They talked about him to others.

What about us? We say we have a relationship with Him. So, what feelings does he invoke in us? Do we feel excited about being His disciples? Do we continue to be astonished by what He does in our lives? Do we feel challenged by Him through the Word? Do we have a sense of awe when encountering Him in the Eucharist? Do we talk about Him to others?

Or has Jesus become so familiar to us that nothing about Him excites or astonishes us anymore? Has 'Jesus' become a name that we utter without any sense of excitement? Have Jesus and his message become something we take for granted?

Truly, if we claim to have a relationship with Jesus, and yet, do not feel excited or a sense of wonderment about Him and His message, or talk about Him to others, then perhaps it is time we begin to examine who Jesus really is to us at present moment of our lives.
