Today we hear Peter speaking to his own people of Israel. When those listening to him realize that Jesus, this man who was crucified, is the Messiah, they are deeply touched. They repent, turn toward God and accept baptism. On that day, they begin to recognize Jesus for who he truly is. It is a new beginning for them.

At the empty tomb, the grieving Mary Magdalene does not recognize Jesus, thinking him to be the gardener. It is only when Jesus calls her by name that the veil falls away - she recognizes him. Jesus' simple but personal act, calling by name, reveals that he is indeed the good shepherd. Jesus knows his sheep and his sheep know his voice.

Christ's presence and voice are often subtle. They are not necessarily easy to recognize. Everyday is an opportunity to listen for our names. We are invited to discover for ourselves that he is indeed alive.

Have I ever felt Jesus calling me by name?

Lord, help me to recognize that You are present in my life-alive!

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
