There is one thing we have to say very clearly: Jesus had very close friends. He liked to spend time with them and take a rest in their home. Six days before the Passover Jesus visited them once again and ate a dinner with them. Suddenly, Mary brought a pound of very costly ointment and started anointing his feet. Isn't that a little bit too much?

Jesus was aware that his mission was soon to be fulfilled. He will suffer and die on the Cross. However he still allows her to waste this expensive ointment. Perhaps he wants to tell us that his Body is of great value and worthy to be treated with the best oils. Perhaps, Jesus at that time has anticipated the Eucharist - his Body, which will be given up for us. He ignored a suggestion of Judas Iscariot, who would rather prefer to sell the ointment and then give the money to the poor. He certainly did not understand Jesus and his mission.

During the prayer you may reflect on your attitude towards the Body and Blood of Christ. Why did Jesus allow Mary to treat his Body with such respect?

Lord Jesus, grant us a better and deeper understanding of the mystery of the Eucharist.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
