Jealousy was the cause of the world's first murder. The story of Cain and Abel teaches us that competition, jealousy, and the desire to have what belongs to another destroys relationships, societies, and nations. Unfortunately, greed, possessiveness, and competition are deeply ingrained in our cultures and economic systems. Every time we are open-handed, generous, and sharing, we push back the darkness and do God's work. Compassion and sharing are the essence of true spirituality, even true humanity. Let us vow to make a difference each day by putting the principles of God's reign to work in every situation.

People often want some sort of sign from God. The people who heard Jesus demanded one - they wanted to be 'sure' that he was who he claimed to be. Jesus was not happy with the request. As far as he was concerned, this was a massive lack of faith. He refused to give any signs beyond his miracles and teachings. We cannot demand signs or proofs from God, but God does give us little clues along the way. If we keep our minds and hearts open, we will become aware of the gentle, hidden, presence of God and the many ways that God blesses and guides us. God always lives 'footprints'. Love needs no proof and faith demands no signs.

Lord, help me to be open and generous.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
