How To Pray With Shalom

The Word of God is not the words written on a page and it is not limited to the Scriptures. The Word of God is God's sacred will communicated to us in many ways. Scripture, prophets and teachers, nature, poetry, art, music, and the ways God has worked in history can all be expressions of the Word of God. Anything that moves us towards compassion, service, humility, solidarity with others, and doing God's will is the Word of God. What sort of things have moved you? What speaks to you and stirs the sacred flame in your heart? That is God's Word for you.

The Our Father is not a prayer to be repeated endlessly. It is a list or outline of how we are to conduct our lives. Recognizing God as the creator and parent over all people will help us to recognize others as our brothers and sisters. We live in a manner that sanctifies God's name on earth, and we long for the day when the earth will be a perfect reflection of God's will and justice. We rely on God for what we need and do not greedily chase after more. We cleanse our hearts of all resentment, hatred, and desire for revenge and forgive others. We pray that we are worthy children of God when put to the test. When this prayer becomes the pattern of our lives, we open the way for God's reign and we truly do God's work on earth.

Lord, may I always be open to your Word.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
