The coming of Jesus among us in a manger and all the mysteries surrounding his birth have always been a source of awe and joy. We have two situations here. On the one hand, the lowly shepherds who joyfully proclaim the good news of Jesus' birth and spread the joy of the incarnation. On the other hand, we have Mary who keeps all that is said in her heart and ponders about it. One can imagine the possibility of mixed feelings of humility, joy, uncertainty and anxiety on the part of Mary. The shepherds and Mary embody the attitude that we should adopt as we live out our Christian lives. Let us start this year today by truthfully announcing and sharing the joy of the kingdom of God to those who have not yet heard about it. Let us, like Mary the mother of our God, learn to keep an attitude of humility and prayer in the many circumstances occurring in our lives which we cannot fully comprehend. The world today needs our example in having the courage to reflect on the complex issues that undermine our wellbeing. Like Mary, let us learn to discern and take decisions according to God's will.

Grant us Lord, we pray, the grace to proclaim, bravely and humbly, your word to all nations.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
