"He made known His ways to Moses. His deeds to the people of Israel. The Lord works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed." (Psalm 103: 6-7)

The Psalmist underlines the ways God called Moses on Mt Horeb, commissioning him to deliver the Israelites from the unjust and oppressive Egyptians. A few points to consider in our meditation of the text. First: the burning bush or fire symbolises God's presence. Second: The removal of the sandals is a gesture of worship and thirdly when Moses covered his face because he was fearful of looking at God and was shocked as he found God's command hard to believe due to his lack of ability (v.11) and authority (v.13). Yet God assured him of God's presence in v.12 ("I will be with you.")

This is how God assures us of God's presence when we are called to serve in the different ministries within the Church structure or in society at large. The Gospel passage describes those who are accepted in contrast to those who are condemned (Mt.11:20-24). We see the contrast between those who are self-sufficient and deem themselves Wise and those who are dependent and love to be taught like children. Who do we resemble in our relationship with God?

"Lord help us to listen attentively to the call of God in our daily life so as to treasure the experiences of living out the Paschal Mystery with our suffering brethren throughout the world."

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
