The Psalmist rejoices because God visited his people. Jesus wept over Jerusalem because it did not recognize the time of God's visitation. The Incarnation of Jesus, the Word of God, was God's most perfect and final visitation of his people. Jerusalem did not recognize Jesus as the Messiah and so could not be attentive to the graces of God's visitation. The tragedy of the Jews was that they knew the place but not the time. This is illustrated, for example, in the story of the Magi: they did not know exactly where Jesus was to be born but they recognized the time in the star that appeared to them. The Jews knew the passage in the prophecy of Malachi that spoke of Bethlehem and they knew where Bethlehem was. But they were not open to the fact that God was visiting them and fulfilling all the Old Testament promises. In our spiritual lives we must learn to be sensitive to God's visitation, his presence, his call and invitation to us, and the power of his grace.

Father in heaven, grant that we may always be sensitive and attentive to Your presence in our life, leading us to a greater knowledge and love of You.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
