We believe that, since we have died with Christ, we shall be raised to life with him (Rom 6:8). St Paul repeats this key doctrine of our faith in different ways in his letters, especially in his discussion and defence of the meaning of resurrection in Chapter 15 of First Corinthians. Paul also emphasises the resurrection in 1 Cor. 15:54ff by stating that our perishable nature has put on imperishability, and our mortal nature has put on immortality. This is probably the clearest scriptural basis and justification of the doctrine of the Assumption of Mary and of the doctrine of the resurrection of the body, perhaps more accurately expressed as "the resurrection of the dead" or "the resurrection to life" (cf. Jn 5:29).

The Angel Gabriel affirmed to Mary at the Annunciation: "The Lord is with you". This revelation affirmed Mary's participation in Jesus' salvific mystery. As her Son, Jesus would be with Mary, his mother, from his conception to his death and resurrection. When Jesus appeared to his mother at his resurrection she was taken into the world of the resurrection in a way which would be complete and perfect in her assumption into Heaven.

Mary, Mother of Jesus, in Your eternal union with Your Son, guide our footsteps along the pathway of life into eternal life.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
