Capernaum seems to have been Jesus' "base" when he began his evangelization work. We Christians are indeed like Capernaum where Jesus lives in us. Through our deeds and words, he is constantly being revealed to the world. If we fail to live and behave like true Christians, there will be counter-productive effects, making people stay away from God.

Jesus rebukes Capernaum. Similarly, he rebukes us for not fulfilling our mission properly. He reminds us that salvation is not granted outright to us at baptism. We have to work hard to earn it. Pope Francis reminds us in his prayer for the Jubilee of Mercy that we have to live like Jesus because "whoever sees him sees the heavenly Father" . The world can then feel God's love and mercy.

The absolutely essential element of being a real Christian is to submit ourselves wholeheartedly to God, as Jesus did. Job replied to God "What can I reply? I had better lay my hand over my mouth" (Job 40:4). Living a simple, humble life submissively before Almighty God is one of the effective ways of letting Jesus guide our life, so that others can recognize him in us.

Lord, guide us that we may lead our lives in such a way that we reflect Your light to others.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
