The Transfiguration of the Lord can be viewed as a mystical event for the three disciples, Peter, James and John. So when we meditate on this event, the bright clouds, the voice, the figures of Moses and Elijah, make us realize that the way to glory is the way of the Cross. So it invites us to experience what Jesus experienced in fulfilling the will of the Father. In addition, the vision of the Transfiguration becomes a foretaste of heaven for all who 'listen' to God's voice and respond to it. We also know that as in Baruch 51:3, the righteous will be 'transfigured' at the time of resurrection.

In the second reading (2 Peter 1:16-19), we see how Peter who experienced this significant encounter assures us that true discipleship will be rewarded with the inheritance of the Kingdom prepared for us since the foundation of the world. (Mt. 25:34).

Have we given a thought that if we were to be present at the Transfiguration, what would our experience be? Let us be reminded that our significant experiences of how God revealed Godself to us can be an encounter like that of the Transfiguration. The questions we can ask ourselves when we recall such experiences include: 'What was it like?' 'How did we feel during and after the event?' 'What impact did it have on our lives?' Let us take time to ponder on these questions.

"Lord, grant us the grace to deepen our relationship with You and grow towards intimacy with You."

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
