A sort of veil lies over the minds of many who read the Scriptures. We can often read or hear them in a superficial way without going deeper. To truly remove that veil, it is necessary to sit and pray with the Scriptures and to spend some time in study and reflection. When we remove the 'blinders' from our minds, the Spirit can begin its work of transforming us into the image of Christ. Our spiritual journey can truly be one 'from glory to glory.'

One of the ways that we cloud our minds and hearts is through anger. Jesus urges us to deal with anger in a healthy way and not to give in to outbursts or unkind words and thoughts. Once spoken, we cannot call the words back. He even likens harsh words to murder. This sounds a little extreme, but he was correct, for they can truly wound another human being and deface the image of God on them. Pause, reflect, and pray before speaking, asking if the words you are about to utter are helpful or hurtful. This makes a fine spiritual practice, and will create a happier and more peaceful environment.

Lord, cleanse my heart of anger.

Novena to the Sacred Heart

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
