In the first reading, we read how the Greek Christians complained about the improper distribution of food to their widows. So, the apostles decided to get others to distribute the food. The election of the seven deacons not only meant there were now more leaders in the community, but also signified that they had been "set apart" for the good of the community. We find a similar theme in the second reading. Just as Jesus Christ is "set apart" by the Father to become the cornerstone of God's salvation, the author of Acts states all believers have been "set apart" to become "a chosen race, a royal priesthood, and a holy nation..." for the glory of God.

With Jesus as the cornerstone of the Church, we, as Christians, are being made into a holy household. We are "set apart" by God to offer "spiritual sacrifices" that is, to a way of life characterised by faithfulness and obedience. We are called to a holy way of life before a holy God and tasked with the mission of doing the holy works that Christ has done. However, it would be impossible for us to live a holy life and do the works of God if we do not how or are not shown the way. No human formula, strategy, procedure or method can help us do this. Only by believing in Jesus, who is "the way, truth and the life", we can be directed and lead towards the life for which we have been "set apart" for by God.

Lord, lead me and I will follow.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That Christians in Africa, in imitation of the Merciful Jesus, may give prophetic witness to reconciliation, justice, and peace.
