In Indian Philosophy there is a term which can loosely be translated as "positive indifference." In other words, we are to perform our responsibilities to the best of our ability irrespective of the outcome. The actual outcome might be radically different from the intended outcome. There is, however, the satisfaction of knowing that one has given one's best to the task assigned. Underlying every such action is the belief that one's action is an earnest effort to realize the divine plan.
Jonah's dilemma is justified in the fact that he knows the mind of the God in whom he believes. His God was one who was slow to anger and abounding in steadfast mercy and love. That being so, Jonah was unwilling to carry a message prophesying punishment to the people. He failed to understand that his mission was to lead the people to repentance and his success lay not in the realisation of his prophecy but rather in the salvation of the people.
Lord, teach me to be generous, to serve You as you deserve, to give and not to count the cost, to fight and not to heed the wounds, to toil and not to seek for rest, to labour and not to look for any reward, save that of knowing that I do Your holy will.

DAILY OFFERING

Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
