Paul's relationship with Timothy was a close one - he regarded him as a son. Paul was grateful for Timothy and prayed for him constantly, and he longed to see him, for their relationship filled him with joy. What did he admire about Timothy? His sincere faith. Yet Paul encouraged Timothy to remember the gift of God that he was given when Paul laid hands on him. Timothy was reminded, as are we, that God gave him a spirit of power and love and self-discipline. There was no room for cowardice. Timothy had been a close companion of Paul's and Paul was his mentor in the faith. We also need to be mentored and to mentor others as we all learn to love and serve God and one another.

Also, Paul's relationships with Timothy and Titus are a good model of authentic Christian relationships. These relationships are Christ-centered, prayerful, submissive, deep, loving, pure, and self-sacrificing. The Lord wants to gift us with these kinds of relationships. If we die to ourselves and obey the Lord, He will give us relationships of unconditional love, permanent commitment, and deep joy. Let Jesus be Lord of all your relationships.

Father, may my relationships not be conformed to this world, but transformed by Your Spirit (see Rm 12:2)

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
