Jerusalem and its people received some therapy and a mental makeover from God. After they had endured so much, they were now urged to arise and stand tall. Jerusalem was to be reclothed in righteousness, glory, and splendour. Again, this is the new life that God intends for all of us, but we must be ready and willing to receive it. Sometimes we need to begin thinking of ourselves differently so that change can take place. Paul thanked God every time he thought about his followers in Phillipi, for they were a constant source of joy to him. Thanking God for those who bless our lives is a practice that benefits both the one praying and those prayed for. John the Baptist's voice must have been loud and clear. He was the fulfillment of the prophecy from Isaiah - the voice crying in the wilderness. His job was to prepare people for the coming of the Lord by raising their hearts and minds to God and encouraging them to repent. That is the mission of all followers of Jesus - to inspire the hearts and minds of all to goodness, kindness and justice. We do this most of all by our own example, rather than by preaching or moralising. A good witness is one who inspires others to do better.

Lord, may my life be a witness to You.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
Let us pray for the catechists, summoned to announce the Word of God: may they be its witnesses, with courage and creativity and in the power of the Holy Spirit.
