People are under the illusion that they have control over everything. They make grand plans and undertake great projects. But all of this can be wiped away in an instant. Earthquakes, tsunamis, accidents, terrorist attacks, pandemics, and so many more things have a mind of their own and do not care at all about our plans.

James advises us to continue living our lives but with an awareness that everything depends on God. We are not guaranteed anything, nor do we have rights to anything - all is a gift. We are not in the driver's seat.

The disciples were upset because someone from outside their group was casting out demons in Jesus' name. But the Lord was not the least bit upset. The man was doing good and, in a sense, proclaiming Jesus. Those who live by the same values and work for the same goals as we do are not our adversaries. We should respect them and work with them regardless of the names and labels that are attached to them. God is impartial and shows love for all, and we should do likewise.

Lord, help me to love and respect all people.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
We pray for religious sisters and consecrated women, thanking them for their mission and their courage; may they continue to find new responses to the challenges of our times.
